50 Lessons at 50

As I approach my 50 th birthday towards the latter part of this year, I reflect on lessons I
have learnt. These are just a few of the spiritual truths that have shaped and ultimately
anchored me through five decades of living, growing, and believing.
Spiritual Lessons
1. God is real—and He is sovereign.
This isn’t just a belief I carry; it’s a truth I have lived. As I approach 50, I have seen too
many moments of divine timing, protection, and purpose to doubt that God is actively
involved in every detail of life. He reigns above it all, even when the path doesn’t make
sense.
2. Life is spiritual, whether we acknowledge it or not.
Nothing happens in isolation. Every victory, every setback, every detour carries a
spiritual undertone. What we experience in the natural often has roots in the unseen,
and discernment becomes essential as we mature. Understanding this changes how you
respond to challenges. It shifts you from reaction to revelation.
3. Your childhood matters more than you think.
The moments you remember, and even the ones you try to forget, play a powerful role
in shaping the adult you become. Childhood experiences can wound you, refine you, or
fuel your purpose. With time and healing, what once threatened to break you can
become the very thing that propels you forward.
4. That ‘gut feeling’ isn’t actually your gut
What we often dismiss as intuition is frequently the quiet nudge of the Spirit. Over the
years, I have learned that the still, persistent prompting I couldn’t explain wasn’t
random or emotional. It was guidance. Learning to pause, listen, and discern that inner
witness can save you from unnecessary detours and lead you exactly where you are
meant to be.
5. There was prayer before the internet and prayer never loses signal
Long before dial-up, Wi-Fi, search engines, and instant answers, there was prayer. And
unlike technology, prayer doesn’t buffer, drop calls, or go offline. In this 50 th year, I have
learned that when every other connection fails, Heaven is always within reach. Prayer
remains the most powerful, reliable line of communication we will ever have.
6. Life is your journey and you get to choose how you travel
There is no one-size-fits-all path, no need to rush at someone else’s pace, and no prize
for living by comparison. At this stage of life, I have learned that intention matters. You
can walk burdened by fear, regret, and pressure. Or you can move forward with
purpose, faith, and freedom. The road is yours. Choose how you carry yourself along the
way.
7. Casting all your cares on Him doesn’t mean pretending they don’t exist.
Releasing your burdens to God isn’t denial—it is trust. It doesn’t mean the weight
disappears instantly or that the concern no longer matters. It means you stop carrying it
alone. At almost 50, I have learned that casting your cares on Him is an ongoing
exchange: you hand Him the worry, and He gives you grace, strength, and peace to walk
through it.
8. There is always an enemy trying to distract—or destroy—you from your destiny.
Purpose attracts opposition. The closer you get to becoming who you were called to be,
the louder the distractions, doubts, and detours become. At almost 50, I have learned
that not every obstacle is accidental. Discernment is essential. When you recognize the
enemy’s tactics, you stop fighting blindly and start walking intentionally, anchored in
truth and focused on destiny.
9. What we dream is not just a dream.
Some dreams are more than imagination or late-night thoughts. They are glimpses of
purpose, whispers of what’s possible, and seeds of destiny. At almost 50, I have learned
that God often speaks through dreams, stirring what’s dormant and pointing us toward
what’s next. The dream may come quietly, but it carries weight. Pay attention to your
dreams because what you’re dreaming could be an invitation to become.
10. No one can serve two masters. Choose God, always.
Divided loyalty leads to a chaotic life. At almost 50, I have learned that clarity comes
with commitment. When God is first, decisions become simpler, peace becomes deeper,
and purpose becomes clearer. Choosing Him won’t always be easy, but it will always be
worth it.
